Write a short (1-2 pages) reflection on the difference between conceptual understanding and procedural understanding of mathematics. Take a topic at any level of mathematics (from elementary school through college) and give examples of what you think it means for a student to understand that topic from a conceptual level and what you think it means for a student to understand it solely from a procedural level.
Examples of topics could include addition of whole numbers, multiplication of fractions, solving linear equations, simplifying logarithmic expressions.
This assignment can be either handwritten (legibly!) or, preferably, typed. If you have multiple pages, staple them together. Write your name and MATH 119 Homework 1 on the top of every page.
